Ordered Tonkutsu Shoyu Ramen, taste so-so, portion is small, feel like it's overpriced. They have a lot of choices in the menu, but it's so pricey. Green tea also can be so expensive.

Served burnt gyoza. Food doesn't taste that good. Sushi is a joke; avoid getting any sushi. Also, took forever to serve a salad--its a salad! The table next to us who ordered a lot later than us, received their salad first! The menu has 60+ pages!! It would take 20-30mins to just browse through it. Whether you got the iPad or book menu, it still took forever to look through. It does not help out with trying to select food.

Service was slow, can be improved, food average, but they are unorganised. They had forgotten my order and everyone in the table had finished. Celebrating my birthday at here since its new opening but my cake came so damn slow eventhou they are lesser customer already. Suprise become not suprising any more, but it is still first week of its opening, can be improvised.

Some dishes are good, some r average. But the sashimi is truely disappointing. Tho its quite a thick cut, but seems like its just half thawed salmon and the texture of butter fish is quite bad, freshness is doubtful.

The variety offered here is extensive! Their menu is like a dictionary & it took us ages to flip through the front to the back 'til we got kinda tired of flipping through to see what's available. We ordered a bento set & a set meal. We didn't find both worth the price paid for the quality & quantity served in this 1st visit. The teriyaki chicken in the Wisteria bento set was so dry that it felt like a duck jerky. The grilled salmon set meal was overcooked as well & it was quite a small piece of fish with a large bowl of rice. The chawanmushi was rather disappointing too as it has nothing but steamed egg & a slice of fish cake. Perhaps these are still initial hiccups of a new establishment, but hopefully the quality will be improved in the days ahead.

Before I started writing my review, I'd like to point out a certain issue. Back in those days when blogging was all the hypes, out came a crop of bloggers who wrote blogs on passion - people who love their food and shared their findings and reviews with others - regardless the meal was paid by own or sponsored. For me, I paid for most (if not all) meals by myself and expected nothing in return. However there are always black sheeps - those who took things for granted and leveraged their popularity by asking for free meals (and other things) in return to be featured on their pages. Now with the advancement in technology and social medias, everyone can contribute their reviews on Google or TripAdvisor. No holds barred.. they just vented out whatever they feel without knowing that what they wrote had impact or might affect one's business. Bear in mind that people are doing business for a living. Be more kind with the words as it's as sharp as knives if not being used properly. Enough of ranting - when I know that a childhood friend of mine, Andrew had opened Shunka, a popular Japanese chain from Penang, I decided to try it when I went back to Kuantan shortly before CNY. He told me that the previous Shunka in Aman Syria was closed down due to management issues and he decided to bring this name back to Kuantan in which I'll spare the boring details. Located in the popular Star City area, my family and I had a great time eating the food and catching up. β—ΎIt was CNY and they served a special mixed yee sang with salmon, tuna and white tuna... The sauce was refreshing too! Huat ah! β—ΎKurobuta pork belly - heavenly! It's Japanese BBQ style at its best and the Kurobuta pork made a difference.. in fact, my kids finished most of it even though I didn't expect them to eat this. β—ΎGrilled pork belly β—ΎBento set that came with grilled salmon, onigiri and salmon sashimi... β—ΎGyoza β—ΎUnagi tamago - 2-in-1 combination that worked quite well β—ΎIn Shunka, they do not have much choice for sashimi but the trio of salmon, tuna and white tuna were prominent. Thick cut and fresh .. β—ΎSaba shioyaki - I love simple grilled mackerel fish without any sauce.. not as tender as I expected it would be but good enough β—ΎDeep fried soft shell crab - less flour to coat and it'd be a great dish A rare Japanese restaurant that offers pork in the menu... As they are relatively new and still fine tuning to manage the operation, I'm sure that they will manage to get a stable clientele in the future.

The food here is not bad. Definitely prefer non-halal Japanese food. There are two types of hot matcha tea. One is refillable and the other is not. The non refillable is thicker

Many choices to pick. Some prices maybe a bit high. But food quality not bad. Bento portion quite big and full. Nice environment and good service. You may need some time to go through the thick menu, with mixture of Japanese and Korean dishes. Service crew is good and friendly. Maybe better to serve free green tea?
