Staff were super friendly and nice! Didn't really understand the concept of the place at first. But if you like to take photos, it'd be a good place for your nonstop selfies (not for me, but my friends). The place basically serves malay meals. Didn't know what it was at first coz we randomly went in. We just wanted something light and a drink. I think it's best to have your main meals here instead? We only managed to eat the keria churros which was good but nothing to shout for.

Openhouse "Dapur Tunku" is an upper concept of Traditional Malay restaurant. Situated at Ground Floor KLCC, outside@opposite the KLCC fountain and next to Isetan entrance. The environment is nice and clean. The foods are ok ( It can be better). Ordered and tried most of the dishes, but I prefered the rendang tok, ikan patin tempoyak, prawn masak lemak kuning, & the rojak buah. Quite expensive for traditional dishes ?. Should give it a try, if you want to feel and taste traditional malay dishes in 'modern' concept. ?

Hands down my favourite place when it comes to fancy malay food. I love pretty much all the dishes and especially the rice is heavenly! The waiters are also friendly and attentive. The ambience is very nice, private and just enjoyable. Worth the price.

Love how attentive the waitress - Yati explains the dish to us. If you try the waris negara menu, u'll get to try rare ingredients or cooking method locally but be mindful that portion of each items are small but you'll get to try a bit of everything. I'm a small eater so we order the waris negara menu and add on a Johor laksa and it was just nice for my bf and I. Interesting to try all sort of different sambal and Yati patiently explains the difference and even showed me buah kulim. we had a wonderful experience and will definitely do it again.

Mixed feelings. They claim to be high end Malay restaurant but my experience was mediocre. The only high end was probably the interior - fancy wall deco, fake plants and very dim lighting (Can we stop this trend of low lighting please? ?) Food: Went for the buffet of 159 - the food choices were surprisingly tiny. The buffet was just a small section and there’s not a lot of choices for the price we paid. Overall the food quality was ok. I was fasting, so when you’re starving everything tastes good. Udang sambal petai was flavourless. Fresh orange juice was just bottled Twister. Tenderloin was so chewy - I couldn’t eat it. I like the nyonya laksa, their kerabu choices were flavourful + sup daging. Place is a bit cramped too. It’s ok nothing unusual. I would skip this place and go to another high end Malay restaurant.

The dresscode implemented is overkill as it's not really a fine dining restaurant. Restaurant had plenty of space during dinner time on a weekend. Pepes, otak otak - pepes too soggy for my liking, otak otak lack the fish flavor. Pais baramundi - the sauce is yummy, fish abit small ungkep chicken - kinda spicy for those that cannot take spicy Kulim rice- goes very well and compliment the pais baramundi's gravy. Overall i enjoyed the pais baramundi and kulim rice the most. Price is on the high end and portion is in small. I need 3 kulim rice portion to be full.

I’d give 4 stars for the food, since every dish we had were quite good.. every dish were thoughtfully prepared and the server helping us was very helpful in ensuring we made the best choices based on what we liked. But what was a huge turn off for this place is the snooty-ness of the hostess, and the general ‘too-good-for-most’ ambience of this place. Firstly, no ripped jeans is allowed in the restaurant. You can still be in these kind of jeans and dress up. Next, when making our reservation, a friend had confirmed earlier if her newborn can join us for our lunch and was given a yes. However, when her baby was feeling a little unsettled and made a bit of noise, my friend and her baby was asked to move, when there’s only another table sitting pretty far away from us in the entire room. Really not a fan of these rigid rules. I get it if it’s a Michelin rated or fine dining (wouldn’t consider this fine dining), but hey maybe that’s just me. If you can tolerate this cold ambience, then it’s not the worst.

a high end restaurant serving fine malay dining, with a special emphasis on heritage recipes. I came into OpenHouse with high expectations. I've heard generally great things about their food, ambiance, and service. --- Food: I am, for the most part, truly impressed with their plates. As a chef, I always figured that I had a generally good idea of local herbs, produce, and spices but was I proven wrong! For starters, we tried the Umai Prawn Borneo and the Sup Ekor Kepayan. The former was a beautiful prawn device wrapped in a betel leaf. The flavours were elevated nicely via a liberal usage of calamansi juice and bunga kantan. The sup ekor was done well too! However, there wasn't anything that extraordinarily unique about it - and that's perfectly fine. Our waiter, Faiz, informed us of the availability of fresh Ikan Kerai from Pahang, even going as far as showing us the fish itself! We were recommended a few styles of cooking including deep fried, masak lemak cili api, and asam pedas. We opted for the first method as it will be served alongside numerous dipping sauces. The cooked fish was presented in a beautiful manner! This was the first time I tried this fish but I was thoroughly impressed. Tender, moist, nutty flesh (as it is a river fish) paired with an amazing shrivelled layer of skin was a combination made in heaven. The wide variety of sambals and sauces including the sambal ketumbar and kerisik sauce were a phenomenal supporting cast in this star studded production. The Rendang Tok was generally good, but not amazing. The quality of beef used is definitely commendable but the sweetness of the dish is slightly too much for me. However, for the right person, it would be 5/5. Well presented with slivers of toasted coconut. The Ungkep Village Chicken and Nyonya Chicken Kepayang were stunning - both dishes were amazingly flavourful! The kind of dish that you could just devour the gravy on its own with loads of white rice. The Chargrilled Squid Sambal Umbut Kantan was a killer dish for me. Wow. The moment they read the words "josper grill" in the description, I knew it was going to be good. And it certainly did not disappoint. The torch ginger piths used in this dish gave a fragrant flavour that cut through the lashings of palm sugar and belacan used in the sambal. It was borderline addicted and easily worth the money. In terms of rice, we tried 3 different kinds. The Kulim rice was hands down one of the best "plain rice" dishes I've ever tried. High quality grains are steamed in a banana leaf with buah kulim infused oil - resulting in a nutty truffle aroma. Outstanding. The lemongrass rice was equally amazing. The yellow vibrancy of the rice made it a multi sense experience. The Bornean red rice was interesting! I enjoyed the fact that it was less starchy than your white rices but it took on an amazing colour and provides a great texture against tender dishes. I am thoroughly impressed by Andrew Wong's endeavour into high end Malay fare. Prices are certainly not cheap, however I personally feel that they are justified. About RM1.3k for five of us including drinks. 5/5 --- Ambiance: You step in through a small door in front of the KLCC fountain, next to Acme. You're presented with a fork - get into a lift or up a sleek spiral staircase. Upon reaching the first floor, you're presented with a gorgeous view of the KLCC area. Scattered around are well spaced tables across differing sections of the restaurant. Truly a high end feel. Deco is well thought out and incredibly tasteful! 7/5. Yes, that good. --- Service: My party and I were thoroughly impressed with the service and knowledge provided to us by Faiz. He explained each dish carefully, as if he was the Chef de Cuisine himself! Unfortunately, drinks took a very long to arrive. Additionally, serviettes were not given until 45 minutes in. Apart from these misdemeanours, I am happy. 4/5 --- I am happy with my experience here and look forward to coming to OpenHouse once again. Ask for Faiz! Be prepared to rip your wallet apart.
