This museum houses in a beautiful former Dutch colonial mansion and tells you all about the important facts and happenings in de Malaysian history , culture and struggle for independence. The building was established in 1912 and was originally used as a Malaysian Club, hosting all British people living in the country. The Memorial was set up in 1985, around 28 years after the independence of Malaysia. The museum shows all the recent developments in the country after the independence.

Didn’t get a chance to enter the gallery ... I was too early in the morning. Interesting fact about that vintage Chevrolet.

This building was completed in 1912 as the Melaka Club. It became the main social venue for the colonial expatriate community. It is now a museum focusing on the achievement of national independence through documents, momentos, video tapes, films and slides.

I feel patriotic visiting this place. As Malaysian visiting here in August really meaningful but I was saddened by the state and conditions of the place. Totally run down and just like nobody care about the important of our history. I urge the authority to seriously look into it to preserve our heritage and history that very important for the unity of the country.

Without much air-conditioning this place was quite stuffy. It may worth to have a look since it's at the centre of tourist area filling with other attractions and is telling the story about the independence of Malaysia. I feel the exhibits can be more well-organizied. I would have felt difficult if wandering here alone but it's better to have a guide to explain the story with you, making your visit valuable and interesting.

Visited back in Feb before the lockdown. The Proclamation Of Independence Memorial is actually a museum dedicated to the independence of Malaysia and the event leading up to it. The museum is laid out in chronological order starting from the first wave of European colonialism to the ending of World War II, followed by the movement to achieve independence from the British Empire. A large section is dedicated to the actual independence. A very informative museum, beautifully presented and free. You probably need to be a local tor political scientist to appreciate the information in such depth.

I came with the hopes of learning more about the history of Melaka and the Independence of the Federation of Malaya. But to my dismay, the museum is closed and was only able to appreciate the exterior of the building. It is adjacent to the A Famosa Fort and a stone throw away from the Melaka Sultanate Museum.
