Imagine a family of cave men, sitting in their cave shelter after their catch for their meal. The sun has not yet set over their shelters. One or two of them decide to while away their time by drawing. In 1959 Lt. RL Rawlings, a British army officer with the 2nd Battalion of the 6th QEO Gurkha Riffles while on routine training exercise discovered Tambun Cave paintings. They were mostly mostly painted using hematite. Measuring 24.38m wide and 8.13m high, they are South-East Asia's largest hematite Neolithic rock art and believed to be the only drawing of their kind in Malaysia.

We tried to go in December but the gate was closed and steps highly overgrown. Could not even get to the cave. Big shame we were looking forward to seeing this.

Very nice cave. A bit of a small walk but otherwise doable within 30 mins. Will need to keep an eye of out for it. Please look at my pics to see where to start looking for the drawings. It's quite high up so look out for it. Hope that helps.

The trail is a bit narrow. Would be better if there a railing to hold by the stream. Nature is always mesmerizing.

CLOSED!!! Arrived here on Saturday 11.30am. Google shows it's opening at this time but the main door is locked. There is no notice there to inform us why and when the place was closed. Don't waste your time to come here.

5 stars is for the treasure and precious of Pre Historical Cave painting. Obviously not for lousy maintainence of government. It completely run down. But worth to come if you are history lover.

Historical site located in housing area. Went through housing area to get here. It is free of charge. No one take care of this place actually. The trail is poor maintained. Even the steps covered by leaves and plant. A lot of mosquitoes. Watch out your steps as horse drop along the trail. The painting is remarkable. Your climb and struggle will be paid of!
