At first sitting, this prewar dimsum shop reminded me of the now defunct Yook Woo Hin on Petaling Street KL, a place where grandfather Kong Kong brought my brother and I as three/five year olds on many Sunday mornings to instill Guangdong lifestyle into our memories, before dropping us to while away the time counting fishes at a nearby aquarium as he smoked away his weekly obsession in the secret den upstairs. While our minds can feed on memories from this place's ambience with the non chalance of the debilitated old servers, the dimsum must capture the Old World style cuisine to complete the experience. Disappointingly it is always a teacup half empty served here. Charsiew bao(RM2. 20) and Tai bao(RM5) fail to impress or even surpass the younger Tai Thong around the corner on Cintra Street, mainly let down by its poorly fermented dough. While you will observe the 2nd generation mum and daughter busy at the till or on the phone, they have forgotten their essential places in the kitchen, and all this rigmarole will come to nought like Goh Huat Seng's sorry demise as their culinary craft charts a slippery slope. Visit soon for the prewar architecture, not cuisine before it shuts down like Yook Woo Hin to close a final chapter on this street of our childhood.

Ordered two dishes, I highly recommended the Hor Fun, the taste is so special and nice. Definitely will come back for the Hor Fun and would like to try other dishes too. The only complaint is the long waiting time.

Back in the 1960s/70s, ??? ???? (ζ‘ƒεœ’θŒΆζ¨“ι›žι£―) on Campbell Street in Penang used to be famous for its Hainanese chicken rice, the best on the island. But the history of its Hainanese chicken rice goes further back - to the 1930s when Foo Say Chee, a true-blue Hainanese owner-chef, ran the place, and also cooked up the tastiest, most aromatic Hainanese chicken rice one has ever came across, anywhere. His Hainanese spot was actually called Chip Seng but, at one point, was taken over by Tho Yuen, sometime in the late-70s. After selling his restaurant, the elder Foo and his whole family emigrated to Australia. The Leong family, who owns and runs Tho Yuen are Cantonese, and their specialties were the various types of Cantonese noodles and stir-fried dishes. But they did retain Hainanese chicken rice on their restaurant menu, but their rendition was a pale shadow of what the Foos came up with. Two years ago, Tho Yuen stopped serving Hainanese chicken rice - and the dish which, for so long, was synonymous with Campbell Street finally disappeared from the street itself. Nowadays, those in the neighborhood are more likely to go to Chulia Street for their Hainanese chicken rice fix - from either Goh Thew Chik or Pak Hock. Meanwhile, Tho Yuen busies itself with its popular early-morning dim sum breakfast offerings. By mid-morning, Tho Yuen starts to prepare for the lunch crowd, and customers come here for its noodle dishes these days.

This is an old establishment that is known for its fried noodles like Wah Than Sar Hor Fun but also serves Dim Sum in the mornings. RM19.00 for a plate of Sar Hor Fun for 2, it’s overpriced especially by Penang standards. The Dim Sum is cold and hard with limited selection, regretted not heading to Thai Thong nearby

Tho Yuen do have a lot of unique cantonese style food including dim sum. They have stir fry noodles and rice. Their egg tart is oval in shape. Taste wise is ok, price is average.
