Beautiful lightning that is being display before and after Chinese New Year. It's a yearly event. It's crowded during this time of the year, tourist from local as well as overseas will visit this temple. Best is to drive up and park your vehicle on the first pit and walk up. The view is spectacular.

Geared up for 2018 Chinese New Year of "Dog". New bright red lantern hanging to greet visitors near of far. Lower temple is undergoing renovation. However a short cable car lift will assist elders or tired visitors to higher ground which houses Guan Yin pusa. Access to Guan Yin's pavilion is closed as it is still under renovation. Guest may offer lighted lamp of various sizes, various types of roof tiles which will house future buildings. Reovation is currently undergoing to connect a new entrance on main road to upper temple. Little banners with auspicious writing are available for well wishes for a small token sum of RM1 which is hug on man made tree branches. Very clean & tidy public toilets

This is my second visit to this temple and it is still amazing. There are various sections. If you are in a car go to the highest level where you can park in a yard that overlook the city.Β  This is where the statue of Buddha is located. Some parts are under renovation. Parking is 3 Rm. You can also park in the level below and take the train up and down it costs 6 Rm. This is a place of worship so customs, including taking shoes when entereing prayer areas should be observed. There is a small pond with small fish in the upper section. There are many hawkers selling various items and drinks. A must visit.

Kek Lok Si Temple is a one of the must visit place when you are in Penang. You can simply walk up by yourself from the bus stop which needs struggle or take grabcar and ask the driver to drop you on the top of the temple. You can enjoy the beautiful temple and the amazing view of the city. If you have no problem to sweat a bit then I suggest to walk up because along the way there are many souvenir shops even a pond that is full of turtles. We are allowed to buy some vegetable and feed them.

Malaysia's largest Buddhist temple sits on a hill, at the bottom of Air Itam mountain. As Asian temples go, Kek Lok Si is relatively new, as construction began in 1890-but the massive seven-story Pagoda surrounded by 10,000 Buddha statues make this a striking destination that can't be missed. Surrounded by gardens, fish ponds, prayer halls, and a number of stalls selling both religious and secular souvenirs, the pagoda is also home to a 36-meter-tall statue of Kwan Yin, the Buddhist goddess of mercy. The temple attracts many visitors from all around Southeast Asia who come here to "make merits" but also to see one of the most important pilgrimage sites in the area. Chinese New Year celebrations are particularly beautiful at the temple, as the entire space is decorated with thousands of lanterns.
