This is the only Kim Lian Kee that matters to me, serving up original recipe Hokkien Mee with only the essential ingredients to create its harmonious flavour of fried noodles with lard, pork and liver, without any extraneous items such as fish cake to detract from the overarching experience. Comfort food whenever I’m in KL.

The moonlight fried kway tiao is worth a try. Flavorful and has crispy pork lard! Try eating it with the chilli provided.

Touted to be the origin of fried Hokkien noodles in Kuala Lumpur, this full-fledged restaurant is just a stone's throw from the unassuming but more popular shop. Having been tipped-off about better taste than the predecessor, I finally set foot in the restaurant. The verdict : 100% positive.

My favorite hokkien mee. This is the original hokkien mee in Malaysia. Get the boss to fry the noodles. Certainly no ambience and not a clean environment but that's to be expected in Chinatown KL

This famous Hokkien mee is made of thick yellow noodles doused in dark soy sauce, over charcoal ? Wok hei!!! It usually comes with prawns, pork squid & lard fritters but they do offer vegan version 素, just kindly inform them in advance and they will make a remark on the bill. For the vegan version, they only provide a few veggie, so not quite nutritional per se. The dish is mainly carb loaded. *There’a red condiment (i.e. sambal belacan) that contains shrimp paste. I thought it’s just any regular chilly paste so I… anyway when in doubt, ASK! 2** for low value for price, the taste is OK but not surprisingly good tho ? 12ish small

Had the Hokkien mee here, lacking the char flavour to it. Also had the pork soup, very peppery, wasn't the best either. The only good thing is, we can order the Portuguese grilled fish from the opposite, so we can taste both of them.

A must visit anytime you're in the Petaling Street area. Absolute legendary original Hokkien mee at its finest. A perfect way to end the evening or sober up. The generous belacan adds to the already flavorful noodles. Throw in the Kam heong clams into the mix, and you have what I could only describe as my perfect combo last meal if I had to make that choice. It could have tasted better because we bar hopped a few speakeasys earlier that evening. But I've been there sober and can attest that it's equally amazing. Support local and treat yourself to street food in the form of an iconic meal. Follow my adventures IG @blingless

As a KL Hokkien Mee amateur, I will only eat when the noodle is fried by the old chef (see picture) and not by any foreign labourers. Otherwise it is a torture to your taste buds, waste of your money and every body time!? So, do make a request for the old chef’s cooking only at this original old time stall if you want a good plate of KL Hokkien Mee.
