Chettinad cuisine in a leafy part of PJ a few minutes from Uni Malaya Hospital. This used to be a dingy place but it has morphed into a comfortable bright restaurant. To me, the food was like home cooked food - like what your best friend's mum would serve. The dishes were tasty, not overly salty or oily (common with mamak or banana leaf restaurants). The vast array of vegetables is impressive and they tasted fresh, not overly done. The roti telur was delicious but the roti kosong was rather tough. Here comes the downer: the curries served with the banana leaf set (yes, they use real ones!) could be better - texture was strange (like the santan pecah during the cooking process) and taste could be more fragrant (curry powder used?). This may be a deal breaker for many Chettinad fans. I would have easily given it a 4 stars if the curries were better. I do like the food for its freshness. P.S. there is plenty of proper parking behind the row of shops.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Waiters Services got room to improve, hygiene of silverware need to improve, waiters mostly don't understand English or BM, only know how to push for customer to order fast, like bullet train, new customer like us have no idea what to order....
Look like Bollywood, all seems very busy, as an experienced restaurant observer knowing waiters need a better leader from the house, they all seem busy, but many non productive move.
10 times X 10 calling for white rice, only came, customer have to go get they own dishes...however Food is general good as 1st timer....

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Came here for the banana leaf rice. I like that there are also roti options at night too. Would suggest wiping down the leaves though it's not as dirty as some other restaurants I've been to. Dinner crowd was OK given I've heard lunch crowd can be pretty overwhelming. The basics were cabbage, brinjal and (I think) spinach so you would need to add on meat options. Fried chicken was nice and mutton varuval were good (though the serving was small).

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ My first visit during lunch and I gotta admit that my banana leaf meal was fantastic!
Spices were rich and flavourful making it tastier than other banana leaf restaurants. Noticed that I had more selections of sides although curry toppings were limited to only curry and fish.
Service was alright considering a busy working day lunch but parking might be a challenge. Local council enforcers were actively summoning!
