One of the interesting monuments you can see in George Town is the World War I Cenotaph Memorial, which is situated at the Esplanade near the historic Town Hall. This landmark was originally erected by the British in memory of those who served and died for The Crown during WWI, particularly a naval battle that occurred in the harbour during what is known as 'The Battle of Penang'. It appears the Cenotaph was destroyed during WWII and rebuilt in similar appearance, being commemorated in 1948. Today you can see this war memorial in addition to several colonial era buildings and landmarks including the Town Hall and City Hall buildings, Fort Cornwallis, St. George's Church, The Logan Memorial and the Jubilee (Queen Victoria) Clock Tower.

It's good that the government want to remember the dead who are termed as Glorious dead in the epitaph??? A nice white structure, where in the evening light is lit and fresh flowers kept. The veterans and commoners who lost their life in World War 1, World War 2, Insurgency are remembered

Simple tasteful memorial by the water front dedicated to war dead. It's fenced off but you can take a photo through the fence

Yup, this is just a memorial, but surely they have a history and a deep story. Around the monument, the design of the city park is united and friendly with nature and the environment, for social interaction is very cool.

Also known as Penang War Memorial the Cenotath is built in 1929 to commemorate the fallen commonweath soldiers in in various wars and uprising in the region. The initial memorial was destroyed in World War II. The current memorial was rebuilt in 1946. Today the memorial is gated up but you can can still take photos of it thru the gate. There is a nice promenade where the memorial is located with some nice street food. There are also a number of other memorials and heritage interest within walking distance.

Nice monument in a seafront location. Next to the City Hall and playing field. Highlights some historical facts.
