★ ★ ★ ★ ★ One island . One resort. Best resort in Malaysia. Great architecture. Individual beach, hill, seaside and pool units. Stay overnight in Mersing to take early morning boat. Tides determine sailing time. Snorkel or scuba. Turtle ? conservation efforts for neighbouring islands are centred here. Nice hike circumnavigation of island. Historical location of transit camp for Vietnamese boat refugees in the 70s. Location for Survivor type series in early 90s. Gorgeous. Operates during monsoon season. Fascinating. ENJOY

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Batu Batu is one of the most beautiful tropical eco-friendly Islands on the planet. Most courteous, attentive, and friendly staff to attend to everything you need. Undiluted hospitality that far outweighs the " so -called- cities 7-star hotels " while saving the planet and showing sustainability by example. The TIC center is a must visit..... just go to Batu Batu if you are truly looking for a "************" experience

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A group of friends visited Batu-Batu Resort in late-April 2022. Undoubtedly, Batu-Batu Resort is a rustic private island resort that offers clean and white sandy beaches, and also committed to the preservation and protection of the flora and fauna around Tengah Island. During our 3D2N stay, staff were attentive, approachable and helpful. Kudos!
However, after careful deliberation, I feel the need to highlight this while crafting the review on public platform. During the trip, six of us were badly bitten by sandflies, unfortunately. Initially, the red rashes were mild just like mosquito bites, but the situation got aggravated right after we were back to Kuala Lumpur from the 3D2N stay. Some of the red patches were arranged in clusters, mostly at the back of body, underarm and leg regions. We had reached out to the resort management immediately when we started to exhibit severe symptoms (e.g. excruciating itchiness which lasts until today, some red spots turned fluid-filled blisters, potential medium-to-long-term scarring etc.) after medical consultation. While we understand that the resort management is considering the potentiality of refund/reimbursement (based on their email reply after our complaint), there is something for us Netizens to ponder:
1/ What is the sole purpose of having white sandy beaches in an exclusive island when the private beaches are possibly infested with sandflies?
2/ For your information, the resort management conducts pest control at the resort and sandflies spray on a monthly and weekly basis, respectively. However, this is a private resort where patrons pay premium to enjoy the exclusive beaches. If the beaches are infested with sandflies after the efforts have been undertaken, we may have to consider bringing the elderly and young ones to the beaches, given that they might be prone to and bitten by the sandflies across the body and later exhibit discomfort, just like how us adults are experiencing at the moment.
3/ While the resort management did encourage us to bring along insect repellents along the trip, I feel that the management should at least warn the patrons of the possible sandflies infestation, particularly, along the beach, should they be aware of the situation (Note: do bear in mind that all of us did apply sunblock and insect repellent whenever we were out and about under then sun).
I wish to emphasise that this is NOT an intentional review on finger-pointing and blaming. However, to the future patrons (since there was not much of mention on sandflies in the Review section), please exercise extra caution whenever you are using the beaches. Based on Dr. Cameron Webb (i.e. Medical Entomologist at University of Sydney), it is wise to prepare insect repellent that contains diethyltoluamide (DEET), picaridin or oil of lemon eucalyptus, which will then provide longer lasting protection (Lesson learnt: I did some desktop research after the sandflies’ bites and infections incident in Batu-Batu Resort). After all, we certainly hope that the resort could slightly do more to minimise/mitigate this nature-related unfortunate event, to ensure the safety and soundness of the patrons.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Just returned home after a 3 days/2 nights stay at Batu Batu Resort. From the jetty pick up to drop off - the team did an amazing job. Special mention to the Restaurant team - especially Sam (Manager) & Jo Ji (Captain) - were amazing. And the food was fantastic, at RM300 per person per day, it was truly very good. I would not encourage a visit during monsoon season as the sea was quite rough and no visibility for snorkeling. All in all - a great experience and we will surely return in better weather!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Beautiful resort with friendly and helpful staff, a big thank you to all for making this a good holiday for my family.
The room was big but the bathroom was even bigger with a centre piece bathtub that looks out to the beach. Too many aunties kept walking by my chalet hoping to get a look during my baths but I think they were just exploring.
Food was big portion but perhaps only one out of every five dishes was tasty. My photos made them look good but taste wise, really not up to mark. The beaches were fun to play in but not for snorkelling as the viz was bad and sea was choppy during the monsoon. The soft sand was beautiful and great efforts have been taken to keep them clean.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Best island resort in Malaysia!
Our stay at Batu Batu Resort is an excellent break from the city life. We stayed in the beach front villa and the views and sound from the ocean were splendid! Beyond the relaxing atmosphere of the villa, the next best part was the fantastic food and excellent service by the Team at the Restaurant. The staff was very attentive, professional and friendly. Kudos to Sam, Chef Khairi, Syikin, Gulfam and everyone who makes our stay a wonderful mini-vacation!
P/s: if you went during monsoon season u might be having the island for yourself. The weather is still beautiful and the resort is really well kept. We were really enjoy our stay during the Monsoon.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Spectacular location, best service in Malaysia, delicious food, quiet, natural, traditional. My favorite resort! I spent two weeks on a writing retreat. Don’t expect a party, beach chairs kind of a thing. It’s simplicity done really really well and with a lot of heart. The staff is incredibly kind and considerate!! I’m going back in a week!!!
